Great comments on a great machine!

It is definitely required that you have a good grinder with your espresso machine! This is not optional. How else can you make day to day changes to your extraction? Besides, the lifespan of ground coffee is minutes, and I doubt that you can burn through a pound in that time!!

There are many mods out there, so I'm sure it's no surprise that there is a kit available for a ball joint steam arm:

The tamp for the Silvia actually falls between a 57mm and 58mm size and these custom tamps are available at many parts suppliers online. However, a great mod that allows the use of the 58mm tamp is to use a ridgeless double basket. This basket was actually a mistake in that they forgot the ridge but used it anyway with improved results. The shots are actually improved with this basket.

I can see that there is a PID mod in your future! The level of intrest that you are writing about makes this a no-brainer!

Enjoy!
