I took this photo during our last dinner in Berlin. It was the night
of the Italy vs. France game in the Euro Cup 2000 football (soccer) tournament.
At one point during our meal, Italy scored a goal, and the streets came
alive. The most spectacular wall of sound came towards us from all directions,
down five different streets like a flood in a sci-fi disaster movie. I
felt like I could almost have stepped out of the way and let the sound
of cheering continue down the street unheard.
